Special Order Cupcakes

Since selling cupcakes last fall/winter, I've been hired by family and friends to make special order cupcakes for various reasons.  It's been a lot of fun, and I've really enjoyed learning new recipes and decorating techniques.  Everyone has been very supportive in my little home-based business venture.  I've been kept very busy!  I am currently taking a break until after the baby comes, but I plan to start up caking again once I am healed from the delivery and life has gotten somewhat back to normal.  Here are the special orders I've completed the past several months.

Summer Days - July

July was a fun busy month with summer activities.  We once again spent a lot of time at lunch at the park, the library and swim lessons.  We went bowling and to Jungle Jims.  We swam with Grandma Betty at her cluhbouse pool a couple of times.  I took the kids to see The Secret Life of Pets; Greg took the older boys to see Star Trek Beyond.  The last week of July Palmer and Brody stayed at Grandpa and Grandma Hansen's Bear Lake house with their cousins.   And Greg and the twins joined them there that weekend family reunion.  They all played at the lake a lot, and loved that.

Lemonade and cookie stand.  The kids worked the stand for a couple hours and each made a little over $4.00, which they thought was fabulous!

Mom and Dad Dates

It had been a while since we did one on one dates with the kids.  Greg and I decided to take out the older boys in June.  The twins really wanted to be included and have a date with Mom and Dad as well, so we arranged dates for them in July.  Each time we do these one on one dates it's always such a great experience!  The kids really blossom with the individual attention.  Having a big family, that's not something that always comes organically, so I'm glad we have made dates with the children a tradition and I look forward to continuing these dates.

I took Brody out to Leatherbys for dinner and ice cream.  He chose to order a cherry Italian soda float.  He talked non-stop throughout the evening, mostly about Minecraft.

Greg took Palmer out for Pho.  The kid loves Ramen noodles, and Greg has wanted to introduce him to the real thing for a while.  Greg had "the talk" with Palmer on this date.  We discussed earlier that we would do so when the kids turn eight.  Greg said it went really well.

Greg took Archer out for a round of glow in the dark miniature golf and arcade games.  He had a lot of fun chasing after the golf balls and redeeming his tickets for prizes.

I took Avonlea out to get her nails painted.  She was thrilled when she found a Hello Kitty nail polish.  She picked to have her nails painted pink with pink glitter and little flowers.

Pioneer Day with Friends and Recipe - Strawberry Poppyseed Pasta Salad

We spent the evening of Pioneer Day at the Nelson's annual barbecue and fireworks show.  I am so thankful that although we have moved from our previous ward, we are still close with our friends from the old ward still include us in get togethers!  I was worried we would lost touch, but that has not been the case.  I think we will all be lifelong friends, hooray!  The fireworks show is always amazing, but this year had to be the best yet!

I made a new pasta salad for the evening.  The recipe comes from Six Sisters Stuff, and it is a keeper.  I really love that the dish has fruit in it, which one doesn't find very often with pasta salads.

Strawberry Poppyseed Salad

16 ounces bowtie pasta, cooked according to the package directions
3/4 cup cream poppyseed dressing
3/4 cup light mayonnaise
4 green onions, sliced
11 ounce can of m
andarin oranges, drained
1 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

Drain and rinse cooked pasta with cold water.  Mix dressing and mayonnaise in a large mixing bowl.  Add pasta and onions and mix gently until evenly coasted.  Fold in oranges and strawberries.  refrigerate at least an hour before serving.

Archer's and Avonlea's Build a Bear Birthday Party

We celebrated Archer and Avonlea's fourth birthday at Build a Bear.  They had their big brothers, Cousin Davis and seven other friends come to join in on the fun of making teddy bears and eating cupcakes.  For their gift from us, we had them pick out the stuffed animal they wanted and an outfit for their new friend.  Archer picked a stuffed Chase from Paw Patrol and his coordinating police outfit and backpack.  Avonlea picked a pink Disney princess bear and a ballerina tutu with pink sparkly shoes.  I made them cupcakes in their favorite flavors and favorite colored frosting with teddy grahams on top.  The party was a great success!  This was a our second party with Build a Bear and I can't recommend it enough.  It is so easy on the parents, and so fun for the kids!

Toddler Hairstyles

Avonlea is about as girlie as they get; which I love about her!  She loves to have her hair all done up.  However, she is not the best at sitting still, which makes the intricate hairstyles difficult to do.  Her favorite hairdo is what she calls "Anna braids," otherwise known as braided pigtails.  Here's some of our favorite toddler hairstyles we've done lately.
