Missing You Already

Sadly, Pappy and Grandma Betty moved back to Florida this month.  They weren't able to get the help they needed from the state of Utah with Katie.  And they had Betty's brother's house in Florida to take care of, which is bigger and without stairs (easier for Katie and Betty).  And Betty needed a surgery for her back that is done by a specialized clinic in Florida... so that is where they knew they needed to be.  We had one final family dinner, in which we celebrated upcoming birthdays, and an early Christmas.

We are so going to miss having them around!  I'm very grateful they were able to come be with us the past few months and get to meet Violet.  Even with the intensive care Katie requires, they both made a lot of time for the grandchildren.  We wish them lots of luck in Florida, and look forward to the next time we can all be together again!

Violet's Blessing

Greg blessed Violet in sacrament meeting on September 4.  We had a lot of family and friends come to witness the blessing: Pappy and Grandma Betty, Grandpa Randall and Grandma Nancy, Aunt London and kids, Aunt Rie, Aunt Andrea and kids, Aunt Emily and Uncle Aaron, the Ashbys, the Nelsons, the Stewarts, the Jennes, the Crowfords, the Christiansons and the Edwards.

Violet was given her name and blessed to grow healthy and strong, to choose the right, to marry in the temple and to be an example of faith to others.  Greg and I both bore our testimonies during the meeting.  Greg bore his testimony of the Priesthood and how it helps fathers bond with their children and I bore my testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and how our children are wonderful examples of being excited about gospel principals, and that the gospel excites me as well.

Afterward we had everyone over to the house for a brunch.  We had a yogurt parfait bar, oven omelets, cranberry orange muffins, pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, juice and milk.  It was a perfectly lovely day.

Violet's One Month Photo Shoot

I took Violet to get her one month pictures in her blessing dress.  The dress is a bit large on her and very slippery!  So it made for some challenges with the photos, but regardless we got a few nice shots.

One Month Old Violet

Violet is one month old.  We are all so in love with her!  She is a somewhat of a cranky baby.  Auntie Rie made the comment that Violet is always crying unless she is sleeping, eating or being wiped.  And it's kind of true.  I think her discontent is due to the fact that the poor baby is starving!  A few days after she was born, I started taking an antibiotic that gave her nonstop diarrhea.  I stopped taking it once I realized the damage it was causing, but she suffered the repercussions for weeks after. She couldn't get enough nutrition with her food going straight through her body and she was losing weight fast.  With what felt like non-stop nursing, we finally got her back to her birth weight at a month old.  And just this past week, she has started to be a little more content.  Now you can add being held to Violet's non-crying list.  However, needy or not, we all still adore her!  This is what is going on with Violet at a month old.

Stats: weight - 8 lbs. 10 oz., length - 21.5 inches

She has learned: to nurse and burp, to roll to her side

She likes: nursing, being held, being swaddled, baths, being rocked

She dislikes: the bottle (but will consent to take it from Grandma Betty or Auntie Rie with some coaxing), being alone, being in the carseat, the swing

Things about her/she does that makes us laugh: her incredibly long fingers, how she smacks her lips, when she cries she sounds like The Count from Sesame Street
