My 33rd Birthday

From the start of it, I think #33 is going to be a good year for me!  On my actual birthday I took the kids and a bunch of their friends to lunch at the park.  That evening Greg arranged a babysitter and took me to my favorite restaurant, The Cheesecake Factory.  Both meals were enjoyable, but I have to say the food at dinner was hands down better than the food at lunch!

Greg got me a bike for my birthday gift, fun!  It's been about 20 years since I've ridden one.  It's true that you never forget.  However, you do look pretty awkward riding after such a long hiatus!

A few days later I went out to dinner at Wingers and to a movie, Aloha, with some girlfriends in the ward.  It was so much fun!  Greg commented on how happy I was when I came home.  I've been getting closer and making friendships with a lot of people in our ward recently and it's been so great to feel a part of a ward family again.  I know Greg and the kids are now feeling connected to our new ward as well.  We made lasting friendships in our previous ward, ones that I will cherish am which can never be replaced, but I'm so grateful that we can find a place in our new ward as well.

And just this past Sunday, we celebrated with my side of the family during a Sunday dinner.  Sariah gave me a gift of going out for a pedicure in the near future, and London said she'd like to come along as well.  Sweet!  I sure do like to spread out my birthday celebration as long as possible!

Last Days of First Grade

Palmer had an eventful week his last week of first grade.   The Friday before he was able to bring a board game from home to teach to the class since he met his reading goal.  He picked Minion Operation.  Monday he was able to wear pajamas to school for a read-a-thon.  On Tuesday, Brody, the twins and I met him and his class at the local park for a teddy bear picnic.  They also had the fire department come right after school and spray all the kids with a hose.  Palmer was soaked!  Wednesday was Field Day.  Thursday our family joined Palmer in his classroom for a slideshow of the year, awards and refreshments.  This week is a good indication of how inventive and creative his teacher, Mrs. Bayles has been this past year.  I've been really impressed with her caliber of teaching.  She put a lot of time and effort into her classroom activities, and Palmer has really grown because of it.  He ends his first grade year reading on a third grade level, and he is a whiz at math.  He loves learning and loves going to school!  We're very thankful to have had Mrs. Bayles as his teacher.

Recipe - Cabbage Soup

I've been watching what I eat since December.  My weight loss has been much slower than I would like, but at least I've been losing.  With that in mind, I love this soup!   It is 0 points on Weight Watchers.  Greg and Archer also love it.  The rest of the kids will pick out the cabbage and then eat it, little stinkers.  It is so easy to prepare and very filling.

Cabbage Soup

4 cups nonfat beef broth
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 cups chopped cabbage
1/2 chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped carrot
1/2 cup green beans
1/2 cup chopped zucchini
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon oregano
salt and pepper to taste

Spray pot with nonstick cooking spray and sauté onions and carrots for five minutes.  Add broth, tomato paste, cabbage, green beans and seasonings.  Simmer 5-10 minutes until all vegetables are tender.  Then add the zucchini and simmer another five minutes.

Soccer Stars

Palmer and Brody finished their last Spring Soccer game June 13.  They had a very tall, very athletic team, and won all of their games except the last.  Palmer and Brody really loved playing soccer!  They both improved a lot in their dribbling and kicking skills through out the season.  After the last game they each received a medal, which they thought was very cool!
